Two Foundations Plan to Help Cambodia Become a Leading Center in Mine Action

PHNOM PENH: The Golden West Humanitarian Foundation and Platinum East plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on continuing to strengthen partnership and cooperation with the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), expressing their intention to help Cambodia become a leading center for capacity building and technical training within the field of mine action at both the regional and global level.

The First Deputy Chairman of the CMAA, Senior Minister Ly Thuch, confirmed the held a meeting with a delegation from the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, led by the Technical Advisor on Partnership and Cooperation in the Field of Mine Action in Cambodia, Shathel Fahs, on Friday.

The Senior Minister welcomed the signing of the MoU between the Mine Authority and the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, with the assistance of other institutions, both domestic and foreign.

During the meeting, he also asked the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation to increase cooperation on the entire field of mine action, such as by bringing in new modern technology and conducting training among vulnerable communities, local authorities and basic law enforcement forces, through the integration of community-based education and awareness programs on landmines and unexploded ordnance. He specifically asked the fund to help train the Mine Authority's Quality Management (QM) Team to maintain the highest quality control operations in the field.

The Senior Minister also thanked the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation for its partnership with the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) since 1998, including the foundation’s capacity building and explosive Ordnance Disposal Training activities in Cambodia.
